Logistical Grace

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good of intrinsic value production.  2 Corinthians 9:8 RBT

My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

Surely my soul remembers and is humbled within me.  This I recall to mind; therefore I have hope.  The Lord’s gracious functions never cease; His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.  ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul; ‘therefore, I have faith under pressure.’  The Lord is good to those who trust in Him, to the soul who seeks Him.  Lamentations 3:20-25 RBT

1 The Concept of Logistical Grace

First, we will discuss some basic concepts of logistics.  Logistics is a military word, which refers to supply, provision and planning of troop movement under every possible military condition.  Logistics is the provision, movement and maintenance of all resources and services necessary to sustain military forces. Logistics even involves national capacity and the nation’s capability to support its military forces.  This is a vast subject. It includes design, development, acquisition, storage, movement, distribution, maintenance, evacuation, disposal of all materials used.  It includes the hospitalization of personnel for whatever reason, construction and maintenance of housing facilities.  The list is endless.  Logistics is a technical military term for sustaining troops in every form of military activity and maneuver.  For instance, logistics involves life in the barracks, training, in the field, on R&R, before during and after battle.

From this military nomenclature we can develop a Bible doctrine based upon analogy.  We’re going to borrow this military term and use it for technical doctrinal nomenclature as well.  The term “logistics” comes from two Greek words: LOGISTES λογις , which is an inspector of accounts, an auditor or a calculator and LOGISMOS λογισμός a thinker.

2. Logistics as a Biblical Doctrine

Logistics plays an incredibly important, an incredibly dramatic part in warfare.  Without logistics, you just could not go to war.  But the concept of logistics plays an even greater role in your life as a believer in Jesus Christ.  You are alive today because of God’s provision of logistical grace.  We can define logistical grace as divine planning, divine support, divine provision and divine blessing to keep the believer alive on planet Earth. For what purpose has He undertaken this?  So that you, as a believer in Jesus Christ, can execute or fulfill God’s plan for your life.  You are a member of the Royal Family so He supports you perfectly to fulfill His plan, will and purpose for your life.

3. Three Factors of Divine Provision

Logistical grace includes three factors of divine provision.  The first provision is life support, provided for every Church Age believer, including you.  This explains how and why we are alive every moment of the day.  We do not earn it or deserve it.  There is no work we can do to keep ourselves alive.  This blessing is provided for every Church Age believer.  God supports both winner believers and loser believers.  You are alive only because of the grace of God, not because you do anything. Winner believers utilize and exploit this grace to grow in grace and in knowledge of Jesus Christ.  Losers coast on it but never utilize it for what God intended.  This logistical grace is divine provision for every believer, you, to fulfill God’s plan for our life in this Church Age. The most important thing God provides us to fulfill His plan is Bible doctrine, which comes from a prepared pastor teacher.  If you are persistently positive to the Word of God, you will find doctrine and you will find a pastor for you.

4. The Foundation of Logistical Grace

The foundation of logistical grace is God’s integrity or His unchanging love.  In order to thoroughly understand logistical grace, you need to understand God’s integrity. This is the same thing as His unchanging love. God is infinite, eternal and absolutely holy.  Because He is these things, these things are components of His divine integrity and His absolute unchanging divine love.  God’s love is infinite, it has no boundaries.  His love is also eternal.  It never had a beginning, nor will it ever end.  Because His love is absolutely holy, everything God does because of it love is absolutely right. God is absolutely right in everything He does. Now these things are the foundation for His perfect provision for you.

I said that God’s integrity, His perfect love is absolutely holy.  His holiness is comprised of two components: perfect righteousness and perfect justice.  Four principles related to these components apply.  First principle: What God’s righteousness rejects, His justice judges…or condemns.  You see, everything that falls short of who and what God is, that is, falls short of His perfect integrity He has to reject, and therefore, He because He is just, has to judge.  On the other hand, what God’s righteousness accepts He blesses because He is just.  This principle is the basis for logistical grace.  You as a believer in Jesus Christ have what God approves of.  His justice administers what His righteousness demands.  To those who fulfill the standards of His righteousness, He blesses because He is just.  This fact is also the basis for logistical grace.  Here is the bottom line in all of this.

At the moment of salvation, God imputed, because He is just, His very own righteousness to you.  Think of His righteousness as being a Christmas present.  He gave it to you at the moment you believed in Jesus Christ.  It is by virtue of your having His righteousness that He supports you.  He approves of His own righteousness that you now possess.  That you possess God’s righteousness demands logistical grace from God the Father.  Our conclusion: God’s righteousness in you demands blessing from His justice.  It is the right thing to do.  This is true whether you succeed or fail as a believer.  This is why He provides logistical grace to both winner and loser believers.  Christians who fail to execute the Christian way of life still have the 40 things they received at salvation, one of which is His righteousness.  This means that God will support and sustain you regardless of the degree to which you fulfill His plan and will.

God is, in a sense, limited.  In the function of His grace policy, He cannot compromise His attributes.  We as human beings, because we are flawed, can and often do compromise our integrity.  But God has found a way through logistical grace to bless every believer without compromise. God blesses flawed and imperfect believers without every compromising His attributes.  God’s perfect righteousness is the principle of His integrity, that is, His righteousness is His perfect standard; everything must measure up to it. His perfect justice on the other hand is the function of His integrity.  That is the basis for your logistical grace.  God cannot accept, bless or support anything that does not stand up to His perfect standard of perfect righteousness.

It is what God gave us at salvation, the righteousness that He gave each one of us, His indwelling righteousness; the recipient of all life support and all divine blessing.  That is His logistical grace.  Let us look at a diagram real quickly.

Logistical Grace Diagram

This is a diagram of the grace pipeline.  Logistical grace and blessings come from God imputed by Him to His own righteousness which indwells every believer.  The point of the diagram is this.  The grace pipeline excludes human merit and ability from all blessing.  These things come through a pipeline, so to speak, so no human merit, no human ability can influence what comes through that pipeline from God to the believer; it is totally God’s work.

God’s justice is the source of all life support and blessing.  His justice does the imputing.  Another way of expressing this truth is this:  Because God is just, He does these things.  Between His righteousness and justice God has found a way to administer logistical grace blessing to every Church Age believer. The principle of logistical grace, that is, that every believer possesses God’s righteousness, demands that His justice provide life support and blessing to His indwelling righteousness. Therefore, God has established a grace pipeline which extends between His justice and His righteousness which indwells us.  This pipeline excludes our works and ability.  In other words, we don’t earn or deserve any of these things.  Things that Paul wrote to the Roman Church in Romans 3 documents this righteousness.

Even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.  Romans 3:22

Matthew wrote this about the blessings of logistical support:

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

Paul defined logistical grace his second letter to the Corinthian church.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything,  you may have an abundance for every good deed.   2 Corinthians 9:8 NASB

By “good deed” Paul is referring to what you as a spiritual believer do while empowred by the Holy Spirit.  Not only does God supply, graciously, everything needed to accomplish these “good deeds” but rewards their accomplishment as well.  These rewards never pass away.

5. The Purpose of Logistical Grace

God supplies basic life support and additional blessings to you so that you can learn Bible doctrine in order that you be able to fulfill his plan for you in this Church Age.  God provides absolutely everything. So that, every believer has equal opportunity and equal privilege to execute God’s plan.  This way, every believer has the potential of glorifying God.

Logistical grace includes the empowering and teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit.  It also includes the unique power system by which we exploit the power of the Spirit.  Lastly for this list, the provision includes, in every generation, a quantity of male believers with the spiritual gift of Pastor-Teacher.  This gift is a part of logistical gift to communicate Bible doctrine to you.

B.  Logistical Grace Principles

The easiest way to understand God’s imputation of logistical grace is to visualize it as coming through a grace pipeline.  At one end of the pipeline is God’s justice.  This is the source of divine blessing to all believers, both winners and losers.  At the other end of the pipeline, inside of every believer is God’s own righteousness.  This righteousness is the recipient of these blessings.

This pipeline, because it is from the source of God cannot be destroyed nor can it become corrupted by wear and tear or metal fatigue.  Since the source of logistical grace blessing is God’s justice this means that He is totally fair is supporting both winners and losers alike.  So, whether or not you are growing in grace God is supporting you. He supports you perfectly.  Since God is perfect, it is impossible for Him to provide support and blessings to imperfect believers.  So He provides us with His own righteousness, which is perfect, as the recipient of all of these blessings which includes logistical grace.  We are not blessed by what we do for God as some allege, but because of what God as done for us.  He has given to us His very own righteousness which is on the receiving end of logistical grace.

Therefore, this grace pipeline, which source is God’s justice, whose end is His righteousness found in every believer, excludes all human ability, morality,  talent, giving, sacrifice, service, or any patronizing form of legalism as the source or cause of divine blessing.  The existence of this pipeline means that God is free to bless all believers, winners and losers, spiritual or carnal without compromising His divine attributes.

God found a way through the work of Jesus Christ to bless us through the divine policy called grace. God cannot accept anything less than His own perfect righteousness. He cannot, under any circumstances, bless anyone or anything that falls short of His perfect righteousness.

Consequently, He sends grace blessings through the pipeline.  Again, all blessing and life support comes to the believer in this manner.  This means that in logistical grace God’s grace is the sole source of all divine blessings and support. God’s righteousness is the recipient of that divine support and blessing.

C. Scriptural Testimony

Now, in our third point, let us go to the Scripture and look at some Scriptural testimony to this logistical grace.

First, a mandate:

But grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  2 Peter 3:18

You grow in grace that is your capacity for grace blessings by virtue of your spiritual growth.  You grow spiritually by learning, that is gaining knowledge of our Lord, then applying that knowledge.  By learning doctrine you are gaining knowledge of our Lord’s thinking.

Now, let us look at the nearness of God in terms of logistical grace which is designed for your support for growth.

Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Philippians 4:5 NASB

Near means close enough to you to support you…to be leaned on!  Once you believe and master this doctrine you will understand the reality of this blessing.  Listen to Paul’s message t the Ephesians.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.  Ephesians 1:3 NASB

Moses wrote an anthropomorphic testimony regarding God’s logistical grace.

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Deuteronomy 33:27

Listen to the testimony of David.  He was near physical death when he wrote this.

I have been young but now I am old; yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor His seed begging bread.  Psalm 37:25

Logistical grace is always given to that imputed righteousness.  David was fully supplied logistically, no matter what his situation was.  He was always supplied though logistical grace.

This is the shepherd’s testimony.

The Lord is the One shepherding me; therefore, I cannot lack for anything.  He causes me to lie down in green pastures of choice food [reference to life support]; He leads me to waters of refreshment [again, life support].  He restores my soul [whenever David named his sins, he was restored to the enduement ministry of the Spirit]; He guides me in paths of righteousness [the application of doctrine, of wisdom]  because of His reputation [God’s integrity: righteousness & justice]. Also, when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I cannot fear evil because You are with me. Your rod [divine discipline] and your staff [divine deliverance], they comfort me.  You have prepared before me a table in the presence of my enemies [again, logistical grace]; you have anointed my head with oil [promotion]; my cup [David’s capacity] is overflowing.  Only the good and grace shall pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Psalm 23:1-6 RBT

First, as David learned, no one who has imputed divine righteousness lacks anything because God sends logistical grace to all believers, to both winners and losers.  Grace depends on God’s reputation, His integrity, or His name, not ours.  Because you are under logistical grace, you do not fear anything, not even death because you will be under dying grace. God provides just as perfectly in death as He does in life.  The rod that David mentioned here is a tool for disciplining the sheep.  On the other hand, the staff was used to rescue the sheep from danger.  Both discipline and deliverance from God are a comfort to the believer who both knows and appreciates the Lord.  David wrapped up this Psalm with a wonderful principle.  As long as you live, both logistical grace and blessing, blessing if you are a mature believer, even if you are a negative believer, logistical grace will pursue you all the days of your life.

Paul also testified about logistical grace to the Philippians.

My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

We’re talking about the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills.  God will never run out of riches to support you.  The riches referred to refer to God’s thinking, the wealth of the universe in integrity.

The Jeremiah the prophet’s testimony is found in Lamentations.  He wrote this while Israel was undergoing the fifth cycle of discipline. He was undergoing extreme suffering for blessing.

Surely my soul remembers and is humbled within me.  This I recall to mind; therefore I have hope. [this is confidence, faith under pressure]  The Lord’s gracious functions never cease [this is the perpetuation of logistical grace even to those believers who were enslaved]; His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.  ‘The Lord is my portion,‘[logistical grace rations] says my soul; ‘therefore, I have faith under pressure.’  The Lord is good to those who trust in Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”  Lamentations 3:20-25

Lamentations 3:20-25 Principles

  1. Jeremiah applies logistical grace to the situation, giving him faith under pressure.
  2. God’s integrity is the basis for logistical grace, not their spiritual status.
  3. Even when enslaved, the Jews are reminded that God has a purpose for their lives.
  4. God’s faithfulness never changes, providing also for believers in disaster.
  5. Logistical grace not only guarantees the preservation and survival of the believer’s nations, but it is also the basis for the perpetuation of the believer’s life in time no matter what happens in his or her life.  A believer will not go home to the Lord until God calls him home.  Logistical grace does not cease until God removes a believer from this life.
  6. God sustains the believer’s life on this planet in spite of Satanic opposition, his policy of evil, any opposition from others and even our tendencies for self-destruction.
  7. Even though believers often have a propensity for self-destruction, God keeps him alive.
  1. The verb for “trust” is the qal active participle of QAWAH.  An illustration of the meaning of this word involves a rabbit finding security from its enemy in the cleft of a rock.  It finds security in the rock or cleft.  For us, it connotes the use of the ten problem-solving devices, the mechanics by which we rely upon God for security.
  2. Now here is an unfortunate principle.  The Lord becomes very important to believers in disastrous times, but not so in times of prosperity.  In times of prosperity, many believers have a very casual attitude about doctrine.  Casual believers do not grow up spiritually, so they don’t a part of the pivot which preserves their nation.  These casual attitudes disappear rapidly when disaster strikes but it may be too late to grow up because your nation may be gone.
  3. Believers who seek the Lord by continuously learning Bible doctrine and learn to trust Him will have a fantastic life and act as a preservative to their nation.

D. Keeping the Believer Alive

God, by means of logistical grace keeps every believer alive.  No believer can live on this earth apart from logistical grace support.

That through death He might render powerless him who has the power of death, that is, the devil; and might deliver those who, through fear of death, were subject to slavery all of their lives.  Hebrews 2:14

God, through the work of Christ on the cross, has delivered every believer out from under Satan’s power of death.  One of the greatest enslavements in life is the fear of death.  For the unbeliever, this is just a fact of life, because every unbeliever is under Satan’s death grip. But for the believer in Jesus Christ, there is no excuse for living under the grip of fear of death. Logistical grace plays an incredible role in keeping both winners and losers alive.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who respect Him, on those who wait for His grace to deliver their soul from death, and to keep alive in depression.”  Psalm 33:18 RBT

For you have delivered my soul from death, indeed my feet from stumbling, that I may walk with God in the light of life.” Psalm 56:13

To “walk with God in the light of life,” means that you know about logistical grace. You appreciate Him for giving it to you, so that you utilize it.

Psalm 116 is very succinct.

You have rescued my soul from death.  Psalm 116:8

Under logistical grace, God can and does prolong life.

According to the greatness of Your power, You preserve those who are doomed to die. Psalm 79:11

Reverence for the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may avoid the snare of death.  Proverbs 14:27

E. Categories of Logistical Grace

In our 5th point, let’s look at 5 categories of logistical support.

1.      Life-Sustaining Support

God gives us everything we need to survive on this planet earth.  God sustains the life of every believer on earth.  He provides for temporal needs such as food, clothing, shelter, transportation, a livable environment, time, a job and so forth. Listen to these two verses:

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Matthew 6:33

How do you first seek His kingdom?  Believe in Jesus Christ.  How do you seek after righteousness?  You know that he imputes His righteousness to you when you are saved.  So this verse is telling us that one result of salvation is logistical support. God adds to you everything you need to live on this earth.

And my God shall supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ. Phil 4:19

When you are face to face with this verse and apply it, can you really ever justify worrying where your next meal is coming from?

2.      Security Provision

The next category of your logistical support is your security.  Your security provision is taught in the doctrine of eternal security.  Your total security is from God.  This includes the assignment of a Guardian Angel and the Laws of Divine Establishment for Freedom. If you are aggressively pursuing spiritual growth, God provides a wall of fire to secure you.

We are kept by the power of God.  1 Peter 1:5

3.      Spiritual Riches Provisions

This category includes factors, or grace provisions that are unique to this Church Age.  Each of these factors is a study in itself, which we will not undertake here.  These include, firstly, a portfolio of invisible assets, thing which God provides which are unseen by normal human means.  Secondly, included is a system of doctrinal application, or problem solving devices. Thirdly, the particular ministries of God the Holy Spirit, unique to the Church Age designed to allow the believer to mature. This provision includes every asset for the believer to learn and apply doctrine, to include a pastor-teacher.  Also included is a system of spiritual royalty and the ability to discern distractions and when to set them aside.

Listen to Paul’s words to the Ephesians.

Blessed be the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world that we that we would be holy and blameless before Him. Ephesians 1:3-4

4.      Blessings Common to all Believers

God also gives blessings to all believers:  Blessings given to growing believers, living the spiritual life, as well as those given to believers who are not growing.  Don’t confuse these with escrow blessings given to mature believers.

5. Preservation from Premature Death

F. The Logistical Grace Rationale

This is the logistical grace rationale of the faith rest drill.  As we’ve taught before, the faith rest drill begins your spiritual growth process in the beginnings of spiritual childhood.  It grows with you as you mature.  You begin to strengthen your faith as you exercise the faith rest drill.  When you begin the faith rest drill, you learn and memorize passages, learning to believe simple promises.  These promises begin to form categories of doctrinal rationales as you grow spiritually.  The logistical grace rationale is one such category of doctrinal thought.  Here, I will present the basics of the logistical grace rationale.  This is the not to worry passage:

For this reason, I say to you:  stop worrying about your life as to what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor for your body as to what you shall wear.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow, neither do reap, nor do they gather into barns.  And yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of greater value than they?  Now which of you by worrying can grow eighteen inches? And why are you worried about clothing?  Observe the lilies of the field and how they grow.  They do not work, neither do they spin.  In fact, I say to you, that even Solomon in all of his glory did not clothe himself like one of these. And if God keeps clothing the common grass of the field [and He does], which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not do much more for you, believer of a little faith?  Therefore, do not worry, thinking `What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘With what shall we clothe ourselves?’ For all these things the Gentiles search for eagerly; furthermore, your heavenly Father knows that you have need of them.  But seek first the kingdom and His righteousness [The basis for logistical grace is possessing God’s righteousness.], and all these things [logistical grace support] shall be provided for you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself [under logistical grace].  Each day has enough evil of its own.”  Matthew 5:26-34

We can derive some principles from Matthew 6:25-34:

You may have noticed, four commands prohibiting worry.

God, by logistical grace will provide for us regardless of our spiritual status.

Logistical grace is for winners and losers.

The principle from that first command is this: There is no meter on God’s grace. You cannot measure God’s grace.  If you are more important than a bird and you are, then: Do not worry!

If your life is characterized by fear, worry, anxiety or apprehension, you are either rejecting or ignoring God’s logistical grace.  Yet He continues to faithfully support even those who worry.  God provides logistical grace support for winners as well as losers. Losers worry and worry is fear.  Why is fear so dangerous? The more things you surrender to fear, the more things you fear.  The more things about which you worry, the more things you worry about. The extent to which you surrender to fear, to that extent you increase the power of fear in your life. The extent to which you surrender to worry, to that extent you increase the power of worry in your life. And yet even as you go down that sinkhole of sin, God keeps you alive.

The more things that acquire the power of fear, the greater the capacity you gain for arrogance.  The more you acquire the power of worry in your life, the greater you capacity for worry.  Yet though you may be guilty of perpetuating fear, God continues to support you!

The application of verse 34 is this: You can be so preoccupied with the past that you do not live today.  Do you dwell on past sins and failures?  Grace gives you the ability to live one day at a time, disregarding past sins and mental attitudes that hamper you now.  Grace keeps you from being handicapped by the past and distracted by the future.  Live one day at a time!

G. The Issue of Logistical Grace

Logistical grace is the basis for stability in time, while you are living on this earth.

I have written you briefly exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God.  Stand fast in it.  1 Peter 5:12

Logistical Grace is designed for momentum in God’s plan.

Therefore, because we have received to ourselves an unshakable kingdom, let us keep holding grace, through which we might render acceptable service to God with reverence toward Christ and respect toward doctrine.  Hebrews 12:28

God continues to support believers who are losing out spiritually, while giving them every opportunity to recover.

Do not receive the grace of God in vain. 2 Corinthians 6:1

You have drifted off course from grace.  Galatians 5:8

See that no one falls back from the grace of God.  Hebrews 12:15
